Time’s Up depicts a flooded old HDB flat of an old Singaporean artist. The drowned body at the lower right corner of the piece subtly shows the artist not making it out alive as the black floodwater engulfs the home’s interior aggressively.

Climate change hits those who are in the lower income bracket of our society all the more immediate and intensely, and they are usually not the ones who get the most immediate help. This piece aims to bring focus to an individual who has struggled in a climate catastrophe.

Time’s Up is an imaginative piece that presents itself as a possible reality when humanity runs out of time in our race to alleviate the impacts of climate change. Amidst the mess and chaos, there are those who care and are doing what they can within their means to be the daffodils during this dull and bleak times.

Symbols

Filled with tension between hope and despair, olive trees symbolise peace and friendship, while daffodils are the first flowers to bloom at the end of winter, announcing the beginning of spring and signifying the end of the dark, gloomy days.

The bright yellow of the daffodils floating around, strong olive trees growing outside of the apartment and the agile cats climbing to stay alive represents the strength, adaptability and regenerative qualities of nature.
