About
Hearing the Forest is inspired by a majestic forest of cedar trees that I chanced upon when I first visited Jeju Island. I relished the kind of calm where I could almost hear the sound of nature amidst nothingness, where all I could see in the distance were trees blanketed amidst a white canvas of snow.
The moment illustrated in this piece was one that felt like forever. It was March, the last of winter intertwined with the first of spring. There I was back in the forest, travelling just days after my grandma’s passing. I couldn’t walk away from the weight of grief that felt like crashing waves against rocks, as I replayed memories of our time together and thought about what could-have-been. Yet, amidst the darkness, I also found myself wanting to live freely.
Hearing the Forest expresses the beauty of living life through the introspection of a singular, serendipitous moment in time.
