“My hope is to bring nature closer to you. For these visual explorations serve as a gentle reminder of nature’s beauty. When one deeply appreciates the beauty and vital role of nature, perhaps conserving it becomes second nature.”

Hwee Chieh’s work explore different mediums ranging from Copic markers, watercolour to colour pencils. Her works primarily focus on nature as the key subject matter. Her works strive to echo the beauty of nature and to express emotions and ideas in this wild journey called Life.

In her art, Hwee Chieh reflects upon the precious quality of quiet moments with nature, the relationship between art and the value given by society. In a profit and productivity driven society, living life at a slower pace can sometimes seem to be going against the current. She often ponder about: “What are we busy for?”

“To create with a medium I enjoy, to study a subject matter that is relevant to me at this moment, to create at a time when I feel most compelled to, to be free to do the above gives me great joy.”

Hwee Chieh is a firm believer that the act of making art is contagious and it helps to dissolve some of the fear in herself. She hope her art is able to ignite and give someone else more courage to walk the path their hearts desire.
